Role Protection and Protection Guidlines: 10 statements of role protection embedded within Raw Theatre



1)
each enactment is negotiated – player, principal and facilitator must agree on the material to be explored and the frame of the story before an enactment can continue.


2) the facilitator as guide is responsible to deal sensitively with sensitive material and to match the challenges the story may provide with each players ability and experience of Raw Theatre processes


3) story material should only be shared willingly by the principal


4) any player or principal at any time has the right to call stop


5) protective inner selves of players and principal are spoken to directly and encouraged to interveen at any time they feel the need



6) role permission creates the possibility for the disowned side to manifest and be more greatly understood through the lived experience


7) player’s credo is to practice non-judgment and acceptance of one another’s story’s, players understand that it is necessary to achieve a working state of intimacy if stories are to be believable, relateable and transormative

8) role defenition may be given by the facilitator before an enactment to ensure boundaries are set and followed

9) the practice of naming and exposing fears and resistances in the connection phase of each enactment string creates intimacy, openness and connection – by acknowledging areas of concern players and facilitator become more aware of ground they may tread with confidence
